By Steve Wells
Recently I was privileged to present two wonderful live workshops in France and Italy.
But one of them might never have happened. Not if it was up to my feelings.
Here’s what happened:
I had excitedly prepared my newest workshop Love, Laughter and Liberation, and was looking forward to presenting it in Strasbourg, France, and Lake Garda, Italy.
With the help of my organisers in each location, we started to spread the word.
Right from the start however, the Italian workshop was filling up rapidly, but the French workshop had only a handful or registrations.
Even after months of promotion, the French workshop was still showing very few signs of life.
Finally, I had a meeting with my French organizing team, and they told me that we only had 11 people signed up. We agreed that we would have to cancel the workshop unless we had a lot more registrations in the next 2 weeks.
I had been having bad feelings about the French workshop for a while. Whenever I thought about promoting it, I felt the energy drain from my body, and whenever I thought about the workshop itself, I had such a bad feeling, that I started to question whether this was a sign from God or “the universe” telling me I was not really meant to go to France this time round.
The feeling got stronger and the pull of my mind to cancel the French workshop got stronger.
I was just about to cancel.
Then, I decided to do what I advise all of my Intention Tapping students and clients to do:
I decided to test it.
What do I mean by “test it”?
I decided to test the truth of the meaning of the feeling I was having.
So, I tapped and formed this intention, “I release all my emotional attachments to this feeling means that I am not meant to go to France and do this workshop.”
Instantly, I had my answer!
No, that was NOT the true meaning of this feeling.
I realized instantly that behind this feeling was another very familiar feeling that I have experienced many times in my life, the meaning of which I was also very familiar with.
I simply did not want to do the work!
Yes, it turns out that this feeling was not a cosmic message from God or the universe telling me that I was not meant to be doing a French workshop, it was just my underlying aversion to having to do the work of marketing it!
The minute I saw this I knew what I needed to do: I needed to commit to doing the workshop and follow through and do the marketing to get the numbers. I let my French organisers Anne Leroy and Dominique Monette know that I was going to go ahead.
Among other things, I wrote a personal message to all of the previous participants in my French online programs and told them why this workshop would be different. And Anne and Dominique also worked their magic by promoting it to their groups and on Social Media and following up more directly with potential participants. And Bianca von Heiroth also managed to convince a few of her group to come along.
And we got the numbers.
I wish I could tell you that it was totally easy once I decided to commit.
Not exactly.
A few days after my personal message went out, only 2 more people signed up. But now I was committed to going ahead, so that news didn’t stop me from taking further action, and the feeling was no longer one of defeat, or foreboding.
So, it wasn’t easy, but the feelings associated with doing it were easier.
Through the continued committed action of my wonderful organisers, and myself, we managed to engage with enough people to go ahead.
And as you can see from the smiling faces of our wonderful French group below, we had a fantastic workshop with really good numbers. And the Italy workshop (photo also below) was just as fantastic.
What do you have resistance to?
Is there anything that your mind is telling you that you don’t need to do, or can’t do, or that it will be too hard to do?
If so, I encourage you to do what I did and test the meanings your mind has attached to those things by releasing your emotional attachments to their presumed meanings.
As I tell my clients and students: You will never lose anything that is good and real and true when you release your emotional attachments. All you stand to lose are the emotional attachments that have been causing you to suffer.
I’m not a follower of a Course in Miracles but I do like this quote from it:
Nothing real can be threatened, nothing unreal exists. Herein lies the peace of God.
Nisargadatta says it this way: The real does not die, the unreal never lived.
So, I encourage you to find out what is real by testing everything! Test your thoughts, test your beliefs, and test the presumed meanings of your feelings, as I did.
If the feeling is real, and the belief is true, then after you have released your emotional attachments to it then it will still be there, good and solid and strong. And then you will know what you have to do.
Warmly,
Steve Wells
P.S.: If I can help you to find truth and release your false attachments, via my workshops or online programs, I’ll consider it a privilege.
